The Love Light Movement does a free meal every Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday at the Piggly Wiggly in Athens Ohio. Typically, the meals are from 7:00-8:00 P.M. There is an array of food available for all people who come to the meals.
There is usually one kind of meat available, a vegetable, and a main dish. While different customers prefer different types of food, the pizza is one of the main dishes that is popularly enjoyed. The amount of customers that show up varies quite a bit each day, but at least 30 plates are usually made.
Procedure
In order to start the meals, the Love Light Movement first has to set up their tables and bring out the food. Two tables are put out, and then a tablecloth goes over both tables. Once the tables are up and ready, the food is placed out. All food brought to the meal is safely stored and fresh. The food is sealed in tupperware, and served cold for customers to heat up whenever they please.
While people come in and out all throughout the hour-long meal, it is usually most crowded at the beginning. Most customers come in right around 7:00 P.M. When customers come up to the tables, they are asked what kind of food they would like and how many plates they need.
Many people who come to the meals have children, and they need enough plates to feed their entire family. Once the customers tell the table workers what food they prefer, the food is put on the plate and then tightly wrapped in aluminum foil.
The table workers always wear gloves when handling food and use serving spoons to place food onto plates. Occasionally, there is also a box with canned foods in it and customers can take canned products of their choice. Once customers are pleased with their plates, they are free to leave without any sort of charge.
When it reaches 8:00 P.M, the volunteers running the tables safely package all food, and take down the tables. All extra food is either given away to other food pantries, families, or stored until their expiration date.
